Pokemon Trading Cards – The Base Set 2

The Base Set 2, released in February, 2000, was the fourth set to be released (after the Fossil set and before Team Rocket). Its symbol is a Pokemon Ball with a number 2 behind it to indicate that it is a sequel to previous sets in the card game, particularly the Base Set. Poke Ball (definition) A Poke Ball is a small sphere, with a red top and white bottom. It can change from the travel-friendly golf ball size that attaches to its owner’s belt or fits in their bag, to a softball size more appropriate for the necessary throwing, by pressing a small white button located between the two halves. Despite the Pokemon Ball’s small size, it can contain Pokemon longer than 40 ft 0 in (12.19 m) and weighing more than 2095 lb (952 kg) (the largest sizes for Pokémon to date).

This set is a reprint of most of the cards in the Base Set and Jungle EX set (excepting the Fossil set), including the Energy cards. This is because by the time it was released, those two sets were considered “too old” and unusable in competitions. Not every card in this set was reprinted, excluding certain cards from competitive play, such as Mr. Mime. Also, since every card has been previously printed, it lacks a special stamp reading “1st edition” during its initial run.

Pokemon Cards are the basis of all decks. Energy Cards are cards that enable a Pokemon to attack. Trainer Cards are support cards that allow players to do something to enhance the game. Some can remove damage counters from Pokémon, remove energy from the opposing Pokemon, or revive Pokemon that have been knocked out. There are many other types of Trainer cards and Of particular value are draw cards and search cards. Basic Energy cards come in six varieties: Fighting, Fire, Lightning, Grass, Psychic, and Water. Each Basic Energy card provides one Energy. Because Basic Energy cards are the only exception to the rule limiting up to four cards with a certain name in a deck, Basic Energy cards are the primary source of energy in a deck.
